In addition, representatives of the US and Pentagon also announced signs that a rocket hit the liner, mistakenly recognizing the Boeing 737-800 as the target.

It is noted that the UIA plane, flying to Kyiv with 176 people on board, was shot down by mistake.

In particular, Newsweek refers to a Pentagon source who, on condition of anonymity, told reporters data obtained by senior US intelligence and Iraqi intelligence officials.



Three officials told Newsweek that the plane was shot down by the Tor-M1 anti-aircraft missile system created in Russia. In NATO, he is called the Gauntlet.

CBS News does not indicate the source of its information.

"US officials are confident that Iran shot down a Ukrainian scheduled flight several hours after attacks by American targets [in Iraq, - Ed.]. US intelligence agencies intercepted the radar signal, sources said. American satellites also recorded the launch of two ground-to-air missiles before the plane crashed ", the channel said.

As CBS News clarified, a working meeting of "federal officials and intelligence officials" was held on Thursday. At this meeting, according to the channel, it was announced that rocket components were found at the crash site.
