Kiev/ Ukraine in Arabic/ With the onset of the Holy month of Ramadan, the prices of vegetables and fruits in Saudi Arabia increased sharply.
According to market participants, the increase ranges from 50% to 90% in some groups of goods. The leader of growth was the tomatoes, the price of which jumped from 3-4 rials per kilogram to 8 rials, which in terms is 47 USD. Oranges that used to cost 5-6 rials, cannot now be purchased for less than 9-10 rials - 53-60 USD.
This also applies to other food items, such as vegetables and fruits. The most significant growth of prices in the provinces of Jazan region, where the figure is 90%.
The reasons for this dramatic growth is the significant increase in the consumption of food items during Ramadan, explain traders. According to observers, it is necessary to intensify the work of regulators to curb the greed of traders and to prevent the exploitation of the Holy month for these purposes.
