Ukraine in Arabic | Poroshenko fired Defense Minister Valery Heletei
KYIV/Ukraine in Arabic/ President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko dismissed Minister of Defense Valery Heletei.
"The Head of State granted the Defense Minister's resignation and will present a candidacy for the post of Defense Minister to the Parliament on Monday," the statement says.
The president said it was time to change the leadership of the Defense Ministry. He also expressed hope that his proposal would be supported at a meeting of parliament on October 14.
"I am confident that we won't delay the vote for the candidacy of a new minister. I hope that it will be held on Tuesday," Poroshenko said.
According to the President of Ukraine, the decision to replace the head of the Defense Ministry and a number of other personnel decisions, namely the dismissal of the State Border Guard Service leadership and the creation of Committee on Intelligence to be chaired by Ihor Smeshko will seriously strengthen the security agencies and increase the defense potential of Ukraine.
