Carpet is one of the symbols of Persian culture and the state of Iran.
The exact date of appearance of the Persian carpet is unknown. The first pre-Islamic East carpet "Pazirik" was preserved to this day and the same age as the Persian power of the Achaemenids and created in the 5th century BC.
Over time, the art of carpet weaving has improved. Each epoch made its changes in the process of creating rugs. The earliest of the luxurious carpets-"antiques" were developed in the XV-XVII centuries. This period is considered "golden time" in the history of the Persian carpet, when the technique was being perfected, characteristic principles of ornamentation was formed, according to which it is possible to accurately determine the city or workshop that created this or that carpet.
Masters often borrowed elements of patterns from architecture, reproducing the layout of mythical paradise gardens. Carpets "chahar-bug" are divided into four parts by four paradise rivers, in the center is depicted a reservoir, reminiscent of pools for ritual bath in the Persian mosques of the Safavid era. Carpets of this period retain the classical medallion scheme, but the main ornament is the plants, so the carpets are called "floral".
Plant motifs have become widespread on the carpets of the Tabriz group. For the decoration of the ornament is characteristic the image of trefoils and climbing plants with spiral-like tendrils. Among the carpets of this time, carpets made in the workshops of Isfahan stand out. They often used gold and silver threads. Such carpets were intended for gifts to foreign embassies.
