Austria poses against holding of turkish referendum on death penalty on own territories
Austria will prohibit holding a referendum on its territory on the issue of the death penalty in Turkey, if the Turkish authorities want to organize such a plebiscite. This was said by Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurtz.
"Legally this is possible within the international law, which enables the state on the basis of its territorial sovereignty to prohibit the holding of a foreign referendum," the minister said to the Austrian Press Agency.
"A planned view of the death penalty can be considered a justified reason for such a step," Kurtz added.
Currently, about 273,000 turkish people in Austria. About 120 thousand of them have the right to vote.
Earlier, German government official Steffen Seibert said that the German authorities are also ready to take all legal measures to prevent the holding of a referendum on the death penalty in Turkey.
April 16, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan immediately after the referendum on amendments to the constitution said that "the first thing."
