Another Ukrainian air carrier suspends flights to the UAE

The main reason for the duration of flights and the need to make a landing with refueling

Since February of this year, SkyUp Airlines has also suspended flights to the United Arab Emirates due to the closure of airspace over Iran and Iraq.

“From February 1, 2020, SkyUp Airlines will suspend regular flights to Sharjah (UAE) from Zaporozhye, Lviv and Kharkov. This is due to the continuation of the ban on flights in the airspace of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Iraq, introduced by the State Aviation Administration of Ukraine on January 9, 2020, "the airline said on a Friday night notice.

The main reason for the duration of flights and the need to make a landing with refueling.

“We are forced to make a difficult decision for us to temporarily stop regular flights to Sharjah from the regions of Ukraine. To make our flights safer, we changed these routes - now we fly through the territories of Egypt and Saudi Arabia, and also make a stop for refueling in Antalya. This need increases flight time by at least three hours. This creates inconvenience for our passengers, and also provokes changes in the schedule of other flights at the arrival airports - Zaporozhye, Lviv, Kharkov, ”commented the airline’s co-owner Alexander Alba.

As soon as the ban on flights over the territories of Iraq and Iran is lifted, SkyUp will consider the possibility of returning to these flights.
