Ukraine in Arabic | Turchynov visited DUMU on an official visit
KYIV/Ukraine in Arabic/ On October 16, the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (Ukrainian Parliament) Oleksandr Turchynov made an official visit to DUMU (Religious Administration of Ukrainian Muslims).
The meeting was also attended by representatives of DUMU, national minorities and non-governmental organizations.
The parties discussed a number of important issues, including the interactions between government and the country's ethnic minorities, as well as the difficult situation in the south-east of Ukraine and Crimea.
During the meeting the Mufti of Ukraine Sheikh Akhmed Tamim stressed that Muslims of Ukraine are struggling to show that they are full citizens of this country, which has become their second home.
“When the Maidan events and Russian aggression against Ukraine have begun, we, I mean representatives of national minorities, did not run away from Ukraine. We met here, in mosque, and discussed what to do in this situation”, - he said.
Furthermore, Akhmed Tamim pointed out the mistakes committed by predecessors of the current government against Muslims in Crimea, in particular, lack of attention to their problems, which was one of the reasons for the annexation of the peninsula by the Russian Federation. He called do not repeat those mistakes in the future.
Speaker assured the audience that Ukrainians by common efforts, regardless of nationality, will protect their country and its territorial integrity.
“I am sure that all of us – Christians, Muslims and representatives of national minorities – want to live in peace, love and friendship. We are the one multinational family. We have an opportunity to turn Ukraine into a strong European state”, - Turchynov said.
After the official part, the employees of the mosque presented to Oleksandr Turchynov the miniature of the Ar-Rahma mosque.
