Ukraine in Arabic | Iran attends to join UN-fight against IS
KYIV/Ukraine in Arabic/ A high-ranking Iranian official has voiced the Islamic Republic’s readiness to cooperate with the United Nations in the fight against terrorist groups operating in the region, including Syria.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran, under its humanitarian and principled policies for the provision of security in the region, will continue confrontation with the terrorist groups and is ready to cooperate with the United Nations as the only legitimate source in this regard,” Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani said on Monday.
During talks with the UN’s Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura on Monday, Shamkhani indicated to the failure of international conferences in ending the crisis in Syria and the negative repercussions of forming new terrorist groups to fight the elected government in Syria.
He reiterated the necessity of reconsidering the wrong policies adopted by some sides, supporting the Syrian people’ demands, and providing help to restore security and stability in Syria.
Shamkhani said that the main obstacle hindering the achievement of stability in Syria lies in the negative stances of a number of regional and western countries, the arming of the opposition, and inciting violence and killing, despite the fact that the Syrian government announced its readiness to hold dialogue.
For his part, de Mistura highlighted the importance of benefiting from Iran’s experience and its positive role in solving the crisis in Syria, adding that the humanitarian tragedy on the Syrian borders stresses the need for immediate steps that are based on the participation of the influential states in order to fight terrorism.
He noted that a political solution to the crisis in Syria is the best way to confront the threat posed by ISIS and prevent the expansion of this disastrous phenomenon to the whole region.
