Man could be injailed for standing too close to woman in UAE
A man, who allegedly intentionally stood very close to a female shopper in a way to touch her, has gone on trial.
The 27-year-old Egyptian man, who works as a waiter, denied a molestation charge in the Court of First Instance. He claimed it was accidental.
The incident was reported to Al Qusais police station on June 10.
The complainant, a 44-year-old Indian airline manager, said the incident happened at around 10:20pm when she was standing in a queue in front of the cashier at a supermarket in Al Nahda.
"A man -- the defendant -- was standing behind me and I was surprised by him coming so close that his body touched mine. I yelled at him and then called the police."
The police arrived shortly later and arrested the man.
The accused admitted during the police interrogation and public prosecution investigation that he touched the woman's body.
