Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has, as expected, called for fresh parliamentary elections after coalition talks failed to produce a government. Voters chose not to give the ruling AK party, which he founded, a majority at the polls in June.
That frustrated Erdogan’s hopes of changing the constitution and boosting his presidential powers. It also plunged Turkey into political uncertainty.
Two months on, with no solution found, he is set to meet Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on Tuesday to ask him to form a temporary Turkish government ahead of a new ballot, expected on November 1.
