Ukrainian president: We want to have an airport in Cherkasy
During a working trip to the Cherkasy region, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky visited the Cherkasy Airport. Cherkasy International Airport Director Ivan Dalibozhak noted that the overhaul of the runway was started in 2018. The cost of the works is UAH 128 million. There is also project documentation for the airport apron and taxiway. He noted that there is only one road from Cherkasy to Kyiv, so there is a need for air services.
"And what about the aviation equipment? Do you have it? Because there are a lot of areas where the equipment appears on the day of my departure," Volodymyr Zelensky appealed to the journalists.
According to the Airport Director, the take-off runway is planned to put in commission by December 1.
The President asked how much time and money were needed to complete the complex. According to local officials, it takes two years and about UAH 750 million to do this, while the construction can be split into queues and launch in parallel air service.
"We want to have an airport in Cherkasy," Volodymyr Zelensky stressed.
Later, during a meeting with the public and representatives of the Cherkasy region, the Head of State thanked those involved in the work on the reconstruction of the local airport and confirmed that the overhaul of the take-off runway would be completed in the near future. "We asked to accelerate in order to have a new take-off runway in this year," Volodymyr Zelensky said.
He noted that he had instructed Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Oleksiy Goncharuk to address the issue of involving business representatives in the construction of the terminal, so that the airport would also serve international service. "We will help, we get in business contact, we will look for people who can build the terminal in parallel. We want you to have a normal International Airport in the next two years," the President summarized.
