Ukraine would become member of NATO, - chairman of Alliance
Chairman of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Paolo Alli at a joint briefing with Verkhovna Rada Speaker Andriy Parubiy in Kyiv on Monday expressed confidence that Ukraine in the future would become a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Alliance.
"There is still something to do and we are sure that Ukraine will be able to become member of NATO in the future and of course we [the Parliamentary Assembly] will do our best to support it in this perspective," Alli said, speaking on the day of the 20th anniversary of the Ukraine-NATO Charter.
The official added that the question of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly holding its session in Ukraine is currently being considered: "We are discussing that but I’m sure we’ll have a chance to come here with the entire Assembly with a very important session in the near future."
He also said that defending and supporting Ukraine is essential to the European countries. "Ukraine is a front line for all of the Western democracies and for all of our common values. So we know that supporting Ukraine is supporting ourselves, defending Ukraine is defending ourselves," the chairman of the NATO PA said.
