Kiev/Ukraine in Arabic/ The US State Department has called on Russia to release Ukrainian fighter pilot Nadiya Savchenko and all other imprisoned Ukrainians. State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said Savchenko's life is in danger, after being on a hunger strike for over 54 days in a Russian prison.

Savchenko was captured by Russian-backed militants in Ukraine last June and then handed over to Moscow authorities where she remains. Russia says it wants to extend her detention until the 15th of May.

Savchenko was recently elected to the Ukrainian parliament and holds diplomatic immunity because of her participation at the Council of Europe.
