Ukraine in Arabic | Ukraine is ready to implement visa regime with Russia
KYIV/Ukraine in Arabic/ Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk would support the introduction of a visa regime with Russia as an additional means of control if there is such a need. "A country which does not control its own borders will not just be denied a visa-free regime but will also not be a member of any military and defense bloc, including the North Atlantic Alliance", Yatsenyuk said.
He believes Ukraine exercises sufficient control over border checkpoints with Russia for now.
Border and customs authorities are operating a special system of control over the movement of Russian nationals arriving in Ukraine, he said. A task group is deployed at the Boryspil Airport and it sends back Russians arriving in Ukraine without a definite purpose.
A top priority for the Ukrainian authorities is Project Stina, which will reinforce the Ukrainian-Russian border, Yatsenyuk stressed.
The prime minister added that Ukraine would be unable to join NATO unless it controlled its national borders.
"If we have to use additional means of control, including the visa regime, then it will be introduced," Yatsenyuk said.
