Ukraine in Arabic | The use of Islamic terminology in Russian language was discussed in Kiev
KYIV/Ukraine in Arabic/ The roundtable devoted to the use of Islamic terminology in Russian language was organized be the Religious Administration of Ukrainian Muslims (DUMU). The event participants during the discussion considered various sociocultural, traditional, linguistic and other aspects of the using terms borrowed from Arabic and Turkic languages, DUMU’s website reported.
Besides, the discussion was about common standards in the use of religious terms for Russian-speaking people from former Soviet Union.
It’s known that a lot of words are taken from the Arabic language. Such words as hijab, Muslim, Jihad arewidely entrenched in the minds of non-Muslim societies, so there is a question appeared about correct explanation of these terms according to their value on Religion.
Participants, who included linguists, orientalists and ordinary Muslims, came to a consensus that the use of Islamic terms is simply a necessity because of it’s hard to find an appropriate equivalent in Russian language.
Thus, the participants concluded that to solve this problem it is necessary to involve experts in this field for the development of common standard for the use of Islamic terms in all spheres of public life. No doubt, it will enrich the culture of different ethnic and cultural communities.
