Ukraine in Arabic | The parliamentary Committee on human rights, national minorities and interethnic relations held hearings on the draft National Strategy on human rights

First Deputy Minister of justice of Ukraine Natalia Sevostianova, the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for human rights Ms. Valeriya Lutkovska, the representative of the Commissioner for human rights - the head of the Department of public relations and information technology Michael Chaplya, the OSCE representative in Ukraine, Aziz Demirjian, Advisor on human rights and national minorities Advisory mission to the EU (EUAM) Maura Morandi, representative of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe for the coordination of the cooperation programmes of the Council of Europe, Ambassador Vladimir Ristovski, Director of Amnesty International in Ukraine Tetyana Mazur the Chairman of the Board of the Center for Civil Liberties Oleksandra Matviychuk, Executive Director of the Ukrainian Helsinki Union,Arkady Bushchenko, and other representatives of international and civil organizations.
During the hearing Natalia Sevostianova, presented information regarding the stages of development of the National strategy in the field of human rights, informed about the extension of the President of Ukraine in terms of developing the National strategy to take account of experience and public organizations, presented the main principles and strategic directions, including the rights of national minorities.
Discussions have been criticized and some suggestions for improvement of the Strategy, discussed further legal status of this document.
The proposal Authorized the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on human rights Valery Lutkovska on strengthening the role of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on human rights, national minorities and interethnic relations, by granting him the right to review all draft legislation under consideration by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the monitoring of their implementation was supported by many participants of the hearings.
At the end of the hearings, the Chairman of the Committee Hryhoriy Nemyria summed up the results of the discussion stressing the need for compliance with international humanitarian law and the protection of the rights of the civilian population in the war zone, including the establishment of responsibility for war crimes, stressing that an important element in the protection of human rights will be the ratification of the Rome Statute and membership of Ukrainy International criminal court.
Also, special attention was paid to the question of parliamentary control, and also raised questions about the protection of indigenous peoples ' rights and the LGBT community.
In the end, it was decided to accept the review Committee's proposals for the revision of the draft National Strategy on civil society and pass them on for further consideration by the Ministry of justice of Ukraine.
