Ukraine in Arabic | The memory of the victims of Babyn Yar was honored in Kiev

The Ambassador Payyat expressed his admiration of the work of the DUMU and the desire to maintain friendly relations.

KYIV/Ukraine in Arabic/ On September 29th, exhibition of archival documents held in the building of the Kiev Center of Progressive Judaism. The event was dedicated to the tragedy that took place in Kiev during World War II. The exhibition was organized by State Archive of the Kiev region, The International Union public organization (IU), The Atikva Kiev Center of Progressive Judaism and The Jewish Forum of Ukraine All-Ukrainian public organization.

The state archive documents of Kiev region and the Institute of Jewish Studies were the exhibits.

The reports, records, photographs, newspaper clippings and notes taken from eyewitnesses who survived the terrible events that took place in Kiev during German occupation were shown at the event.

Despite that main victims of the brutal atrocities committed by the fascist invaders were Jews, events had taken place at Babyn Yar from September 1941 to September 194 were a multi-national tragedy. Roma (Gypsies), Russians, Ukrainians, and many other citizens of Kiev were executed there at that times.

According to the head of IU Larisa Abramovich, the tragedy happened in Babyn Yar is harsh lesson of history that mankind has no right to forget.

The Director of the Kiev State Archive Sofia Kameneva told that this exhibition is one of the most difficult. "It is very hard psychologically to deal during a long time with descriptions of Nazi atrocities and photos of killed people", she said.

The representatives of The International Union regularly take part in activities aimed at the protection and promotion of the rights of national minorities in the Ukrainian society. The organization aims to create favorable conditions for the life of different nationalities, cultures and religions in Ukraine.
