Ukraine in Arabic | The Iraqi army launched an operation to release Tikrit
Kiev/ Ukraine in Arabic/ Tikrit, known as the hometown of dictator Saddam Hussein. Located in the North of Baghdad. Tikrit is under the dominion of the Arabs. In 1137, the birthplace of the legendary military leader Saladin, named after the province of Salah ad-DIN. The city was captured and destroyed by the Mongols in the fourteenth century.
During the First world war the city was captured by British troops in September 1917.
During the invasion of the Anglo-American forces in Iraq Tikrit was taken without a fight the forces of the marine Corps, USA 13 April 2003.
Was captured IGIL back in June of last year. Still trying to recapture the city were not successful.
Previously managed to push IGIL from Baghdad, Iraqi Kurdistan and Eastern province of Diyala. But the province of Salah-ed-DIN center in Tikrit remained in the hands of an “Islamic state”.
The Prime Minister of Iraq Haider al-Abadi ordered the attack on Sunday.
Haider al-Abadi: “Our goal is to free people from oppression and terror IGIL. We must protect citizens and their property”.
The liberation of the province of Salah-ed-DIN will allow the Iraqi army to launch an offensive in Mosul, the second largest city of Iraq, on the North of the country. The liberation of the Northern province of Ninawa and access to the Syrian border is scheduled for April.
