Ukraine in Arabic | Surprise rise for Turkish consumer inflation

Consumer price inflation in Turkey unexpectedly rose last month, according to official data from the Turkish Statistical Institute.

Kiev/ Ukraine in Kiev/ The Turkish Consumer Price Index went up 1.63 percent from March, pushing the annual rate of inflation to 7.91 percent.

Many economists expected inflation would rise 1.34 percent from the previous month and reach an annual rate of 7.60 percent.

The food and nonalcoholic beverages index rose by 14.36 percent year-on-year. Food has been named as the chief driver of its inflation by Central Bank Governor Erdem Basci.
