Ukraine in Arabic | Russia sent a second convoy without agreement with Ukraine
KYIV/Ukraine in Arabic/ Russian government officials have sent a second convoy of trucks carrying humanitarian aid into eastern Ukraine without obtaining consent from Kiev.
People in the region are in urgent need of food and water despite a ceasefire between Ukrainian government forces and pro-Russian separatists. The sides ended 4 months of fighting when they agreed to the deal on September 5th.
Drivers of more than 200 trucks arrived in the rebel-held city of Luhansk. They transported 2,000 tons of supplies, including wheat and sugar.
Spokesman for the Information and Analytical Center of the National Security and Defense Council Andriy Lysenko has said that Ukrainian representatives were given no opportunity to inspect the Russian humanitarian convoy that arrived in Luhansk on Saturday.
"Tonight, in violation of the established procedure of border and customs clearance, in the absence of representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Russian side has carried out the illegal transfer of so-called humanitarian cargo through the Donetsk (Russian Federation) – Izvaryne (Ukraine) checkpoint. Ukrainian border guards and customs officers were not allowed to check and issue clearance for the cargo and the vehicles. Representatives of the Red Cross do not accompany the cargo, its contents are unknown," he said at a briefing in Kyiv on Saturday
