Ukraine in Arabic | In Egypt was renovated gallery of Tutankhamun
Kiev/Ukraine in Arabic/ In museum of Cairo after restoration began its work gallery of Tutankhamun, as Russian service BBC report.
Restoration was during planned renovation of all halls in museum exposition. Halls were opened by prime-minister of Egypt Ibrahim Mahlab.
In exposition there are treasures from the tomb of young pharaoh, which was found in 1922. It was one of the most important archaeological discoveries of the last centuries.
Tutankhamun’s tomb preserved untouchable 3 thousand years, till the time when it was discovered by British archaeologist Howard Carter. Before that he had to spend a lot of years in effectless searches.
Last renovation of Museum in Cairo was made for funds of European Union and international donators.
James Moran, the head of delegation of EU in Cairo, has said that European Union hopes this financial support will help to revive Egypt's tourism sector. And it, as it’s known, plays the main role in economics of the country.
In next year EU plans to devote funds to Egypt more than 92 thousand EUR for restoration of eastern part of museum in Cairo.
Museum of Egypt or Cairo was opened in 1902 on central Tahrir Square. In 107 halls there are artifacts that involve great period of time: from prehistoric till Roman Empire. But most of collection devoted to epoch of Pharaohs.
There are near 160 thousand works of art for 5 thousand years of history in Egypt.
During Egyptian revolution in 2011 museum in Cairo was looted. It is known about destruction of several mummies, damaged some artifacts, fading of near 50 exhibit items in museum. Half of them were managed to be found later and return to museum. Including two statues of Tutankhamun made from cedar and covered with gold.
Briefly about Pharaoh Tutankhamun:
- Reigned in Egypt probably from 1336 till 1327 B.C.E. ascended the throne at the age of 8-9
- He is considered to be son and nephew of Akhenaten , famous from history of Egypt as Pharaoh -heretic
- He married his half sister Ankhesenamun
- Died at the age 17 or 18
- The cause of death is unknown: he could become victim of murderers or die in an accident during hunting
