The award ceremony was held in the building of the Martin Luther king, Jr. at the University Morehouse (Atlanta, USA). Fethullah Gulen could not attend for health reasons, the award he received PhD Alps, Aslandogan, which was read to those present a letter of thanks to the preacher.
A traditional ceremony of awarding the peace Prize, which was attended by hundreds of academics, activists and dignitaries, was held in the building of the Martin Luther king, Jr. at the University Morehouse. Professor Lawrence E. Carter noted that this award for the first time in history was awarded to a Muslim religious leader.
"Today we are honored to present this award to Fethullah gülen, a person engaged in the dissemination of traditional Islamic thought. The man who in an interview with the Washington Post that he made immediately after the terrorist attack of 11 September 2001 in the world trade center in new York, condemned such actions and called on all to the world... We are honored to present this prize to the one who publicly stated that a suicide bomber who kills innocent people, don't commit Jihad... Proud, because this is the person who called the ideals of humanism and moral human values. Because he said that differences in skin color, ethnic, gender, and national origin are not crushed society, but rather serve as its spiritual unity.
