Ukraine in Arabic | Ebru - art of drawing on water
Kiev/Ukraine in Arabic/ Ebru is an ancient Eastern art that doesn’t have any analogs with another traditional technique of drawing. Picture is made not on solid surface but on the surface of water layer. In order paints would not smear special thickener from plant extract is added into water. Instruments for drawing are not usual brushes but awl and special combs with thin teeth. Finished paint could be put on paper, fabric, leather, ceramics, glass and others.
Art of ebru is famous from ancient times, paints made on leather with the help of this technique were found in archaeological excavations dating back more than 2500 years. Technique of drawing on water is considered by UNESCO as cultural heritage of mankind, in international community approved The World day of ebru, that is celebrated at the beginning of September.
Nowadays ebru prospering again. Special popularity it has in Turkey where with the help of this technique are made not only paintings but also unique silk and chiffon scarves, ceramics are designed. Shifting base helps to create not only images of any form, but also unbelievable scenic effects, up to marble drawings and finest patterns of rime on glass. Those who at least one time tried to draw on water became passionate about it forever.
