Saudis committed 50 mln trips within kingdom during 2016
The Tourism Information and MAS Research Center, under the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage, issued a report revealing that the number of local tourist trips inside the kingdom during 2016, exceeded the 47.5 million trips, recording a 2.3% rise compared to 2015 when the number of local tourist trips exceeded 46.5 million.
The report pointed out that the spending on local trips last year (2016) exceeded 44.9 billion riyals, recording an estimated 6.4% decline in 2015.
The report confirmed that the number of nights spent for local tourism purposes has increased in 2016 to reach 243.5 million tourism nights compared to 240.6 million nights in 2015, recording 1.2% growth rate.
The same report indicated that the number of tourism trips from outside the Kingdom was estimated at 17.99 million trips last year versus 18.05 for the year 2016 with a growth rate of 0.3%, and 197.6 million tourism nights compared to 193.1 in 2015, recording a growth rate of 2.3%.
The statistical report issued by the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage demonstrated the increase in the expenditure on tourism trips from outside the Kingdom: from 82.5 billion riyals in 2015 to 92.3 billion last year, recording an 11.8% increase.
