Prosecutor's office opened more than 800 criminal cases during occupation of Crimea
The Office of the Prosecutor General and the Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea within six years from the beginning of the annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol reported more than 1,200 people suspected of committing crimes against the foundations of national security of Ukraine and the conduct of an aggressive war against Ukraine.
This was reported by the press service of the ARC prosecutor's office.
The ministry emphasized that this refers to the deputies of the VI convocation of the Verkhovna Rada of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the Sevastopol City Council, former Ukrainian law enforcement officers, prosecutors and judges who changed the oath, as well as Russian officials.
“According to the results of the preliminary investigation, the prosecution authorities sent 241 indictments of the corresponding category to the court, of which 220 - in the form of a special absentia in absentia investigation. Now the courts have adopted 34 convictions for infringing on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine (Article 110 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and high treason (Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), ”it was informed.
In general, law enforcement agencies carry out pre-trial investigations in 800 criminal proceedings against crimes committed in annexed territory: intentional killings, abductions, torture, illegal searches, forced militarization and deportation, etc.
Evidence of violations by Russia and the occupation administration controlled by it is systematically transferred to the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (OP ISS). Since 2014, 7 such information messages have already been sent, and in its latest reports, the ISS OP defines the situation in Crimea as “an international armed conflict between Ukraine and Russia".
