Prime Minister of Ukraine hails the development of the Ukrainian educational system
The new Ukrainian school has become a fundamental change that shapes our future and our present, as it promotes the establishment of Ukraine as a country of happy children. Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman said during the Conference “The New Ukrainian School: Successes and Challenges of the First Year of Implementation.”
Last year, Ukraine saw the launch of changes in secondary education, and they became the most tangible in primary school. At that time 448,600 children entered first grades. About 105,000 teachers improved their qualifications, of which 41,500 teachers underwent training and practical study under the new standards developed by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
In addition, the total amount of state investments in updating the education system for 2018-2019 was UAH 7 billion [about $270 million]. Investments in the arrangement of the first classes – equipment, furniture, teaching materials – amounted to about UAH 1 billion [about $38.5 million] in 2018 and about UAH 950 million [about $36.5 million] this year.
“For all of us, the topic of Ukrainian children, which are our future – is special for us. For me, it is just as personal: I was born into a family of educators. Since the age of two, I was visiting school: my mom was teaching, and I was watching. And all the time I was part of the educators’ environment,” said Groysman.
“We must prolong our activity in this direction. We already have 1 million Ukrainian children who began to acquire knowledge in the new environment. Children are curious, children are involved in the process,” said Groysman.
“The new Ukrainian school has become the fundamental change shaping our future and our present. Building Ukraine as the country of happy children should become our national idea. The health, safety and education of children should become our unwavering priorities.”
