Poroshenko considers meeting with Trump needed condition before Putin-Trump talks
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko says that Ukraine enjoys strong bipartisan support in the United States, and during a forthcoming meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, he will be able to "equip everyone" with information, according to the Ukrainian presidential press service.
"It is very important that my meeting as the Ukrainian president in the White House happen before [Russian President Vladimir] Putin meets [Trump]," Poroshenko said during a meeting with the Ukrainian community, adding that this is necessary to ensure that "everyone is armed with information and no one faces any injustice."
"Look how powerful and fantastic support we are now enjoying in the United States. I've arrived today with the first visit after the presidential elections [in the United States]. And we have a fantastic agenda," Poroshenko said.
During his working visit to the U.S., the Ukrainian president will hold a series of meetings and negotiations, it said. As was reported, Poroshenko is scheduled to meet with U.S. Vice-President Mike Pence in Washington, D.C., on June 20. Trump is expected to join.
The White House, in turn, confirmed that information. The meeting is scheduled for 11:00 Washington time (18:00 Kyiv time). The agenda of the talks is not available. A statement for the press was not announced.
