Mass rituals have been performed in the US as witches and opponents of Donald Trump cast a spell of “magic resistance” in a bid to remove the President from office.

Followers of witchcraft across the country performed a mass spell at midnight on Friday, which entailed chanting the incantation and burning an 'unflattering' photograph of him with a candle.

A Facebook group devoted to the ritual has attracted over 10,500 likes, coining the hashtag #magicresistance, and an online document stating how the ritual is carried out has been widely shared online.

The document, titled ‘A Spell to Bind Donald Trump and All Those Who Abet Him’, written by a self-proclaimed "magic thinker", recites the spell. Part of it reads: “I call upon you to bind Donald J Trump, so that his malignant works may fail utterly, that he may do no harm to any human soul, nor any tree, animal, rock, stream or Sea."

Video footage circulating the internet shows people on the first "ritual date" on Friday night reciting the incantation and burning the photos of Mr Trump. Participants are instructed to undertake the ritual on the stroke of midnight on every waning crescent moon until he is removed from office.
