The rite symbolizes the close connection between the world of the living and the dead

Indonesians celebrate Manene - the festival of visitation of deceased relatives. During the holiday people come to the buildings of Toraja - in which store remains of deceased relatives or acquaintances.

This ritual is especially widespread on the southern island of Sulawesi, where the Toraja population lives.

People pull out the remains and clean them, sometimes changing clothes and decorating skeletons.

The rite symbolizes the close connection between the world of the living and the dead.
