More than 250 people, including 15 journalists, were detained in Belarus on the evening of July 14, the Belarusian service of Radio Svoboda reported, citing human rights activists. The detainees are on trial on July 15.

Some of the detainees were released without any reports.

People in many Belarusian cities took to the streets on the evening of July 14 after the Central Election Commission refused to register Viktor Babaryk and Valery Tsepkal as presidential candidates.

People came out without posters and banners, gathered in different parts of the city, shouted slogans and clapped their hands. Some detainees were repulsed by security forces.
