Iran offered to train al-Qaeda fighters in Hezbollah training camps, as well as provide them with money and armaments, according to newly released documents found when Osama bin Laden was killed six years ago.

The documents, a huge tranche of papers, diaries and videos made public by the CIA, include bin Laden’s diaries, the first pictures of his son and presumed heir Hamza as an adult, and details of al-Qaeda’s internal and external management and relations.

They give the fullest account yet of al-Qaeda’s ambiguous and long-disputed relationship with Iran.
