The Verkhovna Rada has approved the resolution "On renaming the city of Pereiaslav-Khmelnytskyi in Kyiv region".

Thus, according to the document, the city of Pereiaslav-Khmelnytskyi in Kyiv region was renamed into the city of Pereiaslav.
A member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on State Building, Regional Policy and Local Self-Government, Vitaliy Bezgin, noted that the city renaming was initiated by the Kyiv City Council in order to return the city its historical name. He added that the decision had been previously supported by the local territorial community at public hearings.
