Kiev/Ukraine in arabic/ The assets are thought to be cash and valuables that were seized from the vaults of the National Bank of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea during the annexation of the peninsula.

The president announced the recovery of the assets in a statement made during a meeting with leaders of parliamentary factions.

According to the president, Ukraine will recover all funds stolen with the active complicity of representatives of the previous government - funds that ex-officials are trying to take out of the country.

"This money will be returned to Ukraine, just like we returned UAH 3.7 billion yesterday that were stolen during the annexation of the Crimea," Poroshenko said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, during a meeting in Washington on October 16 last year Valeria Gontareva, the governor of the National Bank of Ukraine, and Elvira Nabiullina, the governor of the Bank of Russia, discussed the possibility of returning to Ukraine UAH 3.9 billion kept in the Crimean vaults of the NBU.

Earlier it was reported that on May 7, the NBU banned activities of Ukrainian banks in Crimea until the end of the Russian occupation, and on July 24, an emergency mode of operation for the banking system in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, as well as Crimea, was introduced.

On May 8, the occupying authorities in Crimea seized the building of the Chief Department of the NBU and blocked assets of the regulator worth UAH 4.6 billion, including UAH 3.9 billion in cash.
