Parliament adopts law on special order of government in some districts of Donbas for three years

KYIV/Ukraine in Arabic/ The Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament) at a closed meeting on Tuesday adopted a presidential law on the introduction of a special order of government in some districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions for a period of three years, as well as on the holding of early local elections in these regions on December 7 this year.

According to MP Andriy Shevchenko, the law on special status for Donbas was supported by 277 MPs, and the amnesty law was backed by 287.

This reported was also confirmed by Svoboda faction leader Oleh Tiahnybok.

According to the law on special status for Donbas, a special self-government order is proposed to be introduced for a period of three years and local elections are to be held in the region on December 7, 2014.

The law amnestying participants in events in eastern Ukraine foresees "the prevention of the prosecution and punishment of persons who participated in events in Donetsk and Luhansk regions."

Earlier Poroshenko said that amnesty would not apply to persons who committed crimes under the Criminal Code articles on murder, terrorism, attempt on the life of statesmen, law enforcement officers, judges, rape, looting, abuse of victims, desecration of monuments, and several other articles.
