Ukraine in Arabic | Luhansk: The humanitarian catastrophe is close

Those citizens, who could leave, have fled the fighting but that is not an option for the sick and elderly

KYIV/Ukraine in Arabic/ People in Eastern Ukraine still suffering from lack of food, electricity and other essential goods due to ongoing fighting there.

Weeks of government shelling have destroyed the airport – the separatists themselves damaged the runways to prevent them being used by Ukrainian troops.

The fighting has left whole districts without power and running water since August.

Despite the destruction rebels marked Luhansk city day with a parade.

The ceasefire signed earlier this month has been riddled by violations and both sides say they are regrouping in case the fighting starts again.

"Many things here are chaotic," said one rebel. "But we fight well, you can’t deny that. We’ve won so far and we’ll keep winning because we know what we’re fighting for."

An aid convoy said to have been Russian arrived at the weekend with much needed supplies of water and other basic items. Luhansk in eastern Ukraine is a shattered city.
