Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Reuven Rivlin attended the official state ceremony at the the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum in Jerusalem.
They both laid wreaths before the eternal flame in the museum’s Remembrance Hall. In Poland the annual March of the Living set off from the former concentration camp of Auschwitz. The three kilometre route leads to the crematoria at Birkenau.
The march has taken place every year since 1988 and attracts Jews from all over the world.
