More than 100,000 tourists have visited Chornobyl zone this year
107 thousand people have visited the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone since the beginning of 2019.
"107,000 people have already visited the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone since the beginning of 2019. This record was set in October. The increase in visitation began in the spring. The factors that influenced the increase in flow of tourists are the simplification of pass issuance, creation of additional infrastructure and increased interest in the Chornobyl NPP after the release of HBO’s mini-series Chernobyl,” the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management reports.
According to the Agency, most visitors – almost 80% – come from abroad. In particular, 15,738 visitors came from the UK, 9,378 – from Poland, 7,826 – from Germany, 5,580 – from the US, 4,063 – from the Czech Republic. In addition, 22,468 Ukrainians already visited Chornobyl Exclusion Zone this year.
The State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management reports that new routes have been opened in the Chornobyl zone in recent months, including water and air routes. Information stands have been installed, and the number of guides has increased.
