Israeli forces detain 16 Palestinians, one woman, in overnight raids

Israeli forces also delivered interrogation summons to several Palestinian youth in the Tulkarem area

Israeli forces detained at least 16 Palestinians during overnight raids between Sunday night and Monday morning, according to Palestinian and Israeli sources.

In the northern West Bank, locals told Ma’an that Israeli forces detained former prisoner Omar al-Sheikh Qasim from the town of Azzun in Qalqiliya, while Iyad al-Jarad, Amir Samir Abu Saffaqa, Muhammad Muhannad Abu Saffaqa and Suhaib Abu Safiyyeh were detained from the nearby Tulkarem district.

Israeli forces also delivered interrogation summons to several Palestinian youth in the Tulkarem area.

Locals in the southern West Bank told Ma’an that Israeli forces detained two Palestinians from the Bethlehem district, and identified them as Samer Shalabi al-Qaisi and Muayyad Ismail al-Qaisi.

Meanwhile in the Hebron district, locals told Ma’an that Israeli forces raided a Palestinian home belonging to Adel Jarad Salim Halayqa in the al-Shuyoukh town and detained Halayqa's wife Zeinat and her brother Ali Abed Rabbu al-Mashni.

Israeli forces also confiscated thousands of shekels and two mobile phones from Halayqa's house.

In the Hebron-are al-Arroub refugee camp, Israeli forces detained Musaab Madi and Muhammad Naim al-Natsheh.

An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an that 16 Palestinians were detained overnight from the West Bank. 

According to prisoners’ rights group Addameer, 6,279 Palestinians were detained by Israel as of August, 65 of whom were women. The group has estimated that some 40 percent of Palestinian men will be detained by Israel at some point in their lives.
