Sixteen people injured during clashes outside the building of the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, in Kyiv on Tuesday, December 17, have received medical care from emergency response teams of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS), URCS volunteer Olena Panshyna.

"We had 14 appeals [from people] with minor injuries, including complaints of tear gas. Two more persons, half-conscious or almost unconscious, were transferred to an ambulance before being given first aid. Both activists and law enforcement officers turned to us," she said.

According to Panshyna, representatives of the Red Cross have already stopped providing medical assistance.

"The situation has stabilized more or less. The road is open to traffic. While volunteers were already leaving, there were about 50-70 people near the stage directly outside the Verkhovna Rada," she said.

The National Police reported that two police officers had sustained injuries as a result of the conflict. They were taken to hospital.

Several large-scale rallies were being held outside the building of the Verkhovna Rada on December 17.
