Hizb ut-Tahrir case: Crimean court rejects appeals for arrest of two defendants

This was reported by the Crimean Solidarity Association with reference to the lawyers of the Crimean people

The Russian-controlled Supreme Court of Crimea has rejected lawyers' appeals against the decision of Russia's Simferopol Kyiv District Court to detain Alim Sufyanov and house arrest Alexander Sizykov, who are suspected of involvement in the banned Hizb ut-Tahrir organization in Russia.

This was reported by the Crimean Solidarity Association with reference to the lawyers of the Crimean people, Krym.Realii reports.

"Despite the fact that house arrest is not detention in a pre-trial detention center, we do not agree. The decision was made by the court unreasonably, the guilt of my client in committing the acts incriminated to him has not been proved, "Syzykov's lawyer Safie Shabanova explained.

It is reported that during the meeting, the lawyer asked to ease the prohibitions imposed on Sizykov - not to leave his home, not to use Internet services, to allow leaving the apartment for a short time to address needs such as: buying food , medicines, go to the FAP.

But the judge upheld the decision of the previous court - Sizikov will be under house arrest until September 2, 2020. His defense intends to re-appeal this decision.

According to activists, Alim Sufyanov's lawyer refrained from commenting, but informed relatives that the appeal was also dismissed. The man will remain in the Simferopol pre-trial detention center until September 2.

On July 7, the Russian-controlled Kyiv District Court of Simferopol placed a Crimean Muslim, a visually impaired person of the first group, Oleksandr Syzykov, under house arrest until September 2, 2020. He is suspected of organizing Hizb ut-Tahrir.
