Compensation for the UIA plane crash: the Foreign Ministry announced the final position of Ukraine

This position, including the relatives of the victims of the disaster, was voiced by the deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Ukraine is more interested in learning the truth about the circumstances of the tragedy with the UIA plane, which was shot down by Iranian missiles shortly after its departure from the international airport in Tehran on the morning of January 8, 2020, than in receiving monetary compensation.

This position, including the relatives of the victims of the disaster, was voiced by the deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, head of the Ukrainian group of negotiators with Iran, Yevhen Yenin. He shared the details in an interview with the Iranian service of Radio Liberty.

According to the diplomat, the common position of Ukraine and the families of those killed in the plane crash over Tehran is that investigators must establish the exact cause of the plane tragedy, which led to the death of all 176 passengers and crew members on board. And after that, Yenin stressed, depending on the causes of the disaster, the allocation of compensation will be discussed.

"The question of truth worries us much more than the question of money. And this is not my position, my whim as the head of the delegation, these are the demands of the families of the victims who want to know what happened then. We will under no circumstances agree to money in exchange for the truth, "said the Deputy Foreign Minister.

He added that it is the understanding of the truth that will be able to objectively determine the level of compensation that the relatives of the victims, as well as the airline and the state of Ukraine in general, can claim.
