Ukrainian Prosecutor General Shokin is expected to resign soon for health reasons

Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin is seriously ill and will resign in September or early in October, according to Ukrainian news agency RBC-Ukraine, which cites its own source.

"He is seriously ill. As I got it, there was agreement prior to his appointment that he would work until autumn and then give way to young professionals. He will resign in September or the first half of October," an aide to the prosecutor general told RBC-Ukraine.

The parliament's anti-corruption committee earlier announced plans to recommend that lawmakers consider Shokin's dismissal.

On July 13, 2015, Radical Party faction's leader Oleh Liashko said that 73 lawmakers had signed a petition for considering the prosecutor general's dismissal in parliament.

At least 150 signatures by MPs are needed to include the issue in the parliament's agenda.
