Ukraine in Arabic | Minister of Fuel and Energy: Ukraine already lost 1.2 million tons of coal

Yurii Prodan said that currently Ukraine accumulated about 10,000 tons of coal.

KYIV/Ukraine in Arabic/ The country has signed an agreement with the South African Republic to purchase 1 million tons of coal to be delivered before the end of the year. This was stated by the Minister of Fuel and Energy Yurii Prodan.

“Due to the conduct of combat battles in Ukraine's east, we today lost about 1.2 million tons of coal, which we received from those enterprises, which are on an uncontrolled territory,” Prodan noted.

According to him, the government took necessary measures to compensate for the coal deficit. In particular, Ukraine signed an agreement with the South African Republic on the purchase of 1 million tons of coal, which should be supplied until the end of the current year.

In addition, private enterprises, which are working on the electric energy market, in particular, DTEK, Donbasenergo, concluded agreements on supply of coal of scarce brand from Russia, which is only in the Russian Federation, the Minister noted.

“Total volume of coal supply on those agreements until the end of the year is 5.6 million tons. This volume of coal will be enough in order that as of January 1, 2015, we had more than 3.5 million tons of coal at thermal electric stations,” the Minister noted.

Earlier, he said that Ukraine is ready for the implementation of European energy legislation in accordance with the schedule. President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed a law amending the conditions of financing of state programs in the coal industry.

According to the National Security and Defense Council, in the Luhansk region the militants organized illegal coal mining. For every ton of coal the terrorists receive 60 UAH. The coal from Luhanskvuhillia, Donbasantratsyt, Antratsyt, Rovenkiantratsyt and Sverdlovantratsyt is being shipped out to Russia. As a result of the pro-Russian militants' actions, coal supplies to the local population have stopped. The militants flooded Mospynska, Zhovtneva and Trudovska mines in the Donetsk region.

Because of the mines destroyed in the course of hostilities in the eastern regions, the losses of coal for the country's energy supply have already reached 3.4 million tons. Of the 95 state-owned mines, 24 are currently operating in regular mode, 57 mines are in the mode of subsistence, where minimum number of people provide maintenance.
