Ukraine in Arabic | Memorial evening of Yasser Arafat took place in Kiev
KYIV/Ukraine in Arabic/ On Tuesday, November 11th, a memorial evening of the prominent Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat was carried out in Kiev.
The event was organized by Palestinian diaspora in Ukraine and The Arabic House civil organization by support of the Palestinian embassy.
The memorial evening was attended by Diplomatic Corps of Muslim countries in Ukraine, diplomats of friendly states with Palestine, representatives of various public organizations, diasporas and the Religious Administration of Ukrainian Muslims (DUMU).
The event started with the newsreels of life of the great Palestinian leader, revolutionary and the first president of this country, Yasser Arafat.
The official part began with the national anthems of Ukraine and Palestine. The head of The Arabic House civil organization Salah Zakut said that every year, remanding the deceased president, Palestinians affirm the right to their land. According to him, every citizen of Palestine has to follow the ideas and aspirations of Yasser Arafat. After a minute of silence in memory of Arafat and all Palestinians who have died in the unequal battle with the Israeli occupation forces the head of the Palestinian diaspora in Kiev Khalil Ambro also made opening speech.
Mr. Ambro reminded the audience that Arafat wanted to be buried in the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. For his opinion, it once again proves the sanctity of this city so Palestinians should not abandon it. The chairman of International Union civil organization (IU) Larisa Abramovich expressed its condolences to the Palestinian people on the death of Yasser Arafat, as one of the brightest representatives of this long-suffering nation.
She said that IU fully supports the international community in standing for peaceful settlement of the Middle East conflict.
The head of The Iraqi House Adnan Alkadimi, speaking on behalf of the Arab diasporas in Kiev, addressed the audience in Russian and Arabic. Mr. Alkadimi stressed that Palestine was and still is an Arab country.
Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Cuba in Ukraine Ernesto Antonio Senti Darias said that Yasser Arafat and the Palestine are very important for every Cuban.
At the end of the memorial evening Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Palestine in Ukraine Mohammed Al-Asaad told about the life of Yasser Arafat, his difficult path and misadventures, he has overcome with dignity.
The Ambassador also noted that the current Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas - a friend of Yasser Arafat and a worthy successor of his case.
Within the event an exhibition of Palestinian cultural heritage was held.
