Ukraine in Arabic | ICRC staff member was killed by pro-Russian rebels
KYIV/Ukraine in Arabic/ According to Ukraine's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Yuriy Sergeyev, there is strong evidence that a shell that killed an employee of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Donetsk was launched from the territory controlled by separatists.
"We have strong evidence that the shell came from separatists' side," he said, while commenting on the incident with the killing of an ICRC employee.
Due to this information, Ukraine promises to conduct a full and open investigation.
The Ukrainian diplomat said that the central office of the ICRC in Geneva had prepared a report on the humanitarian situation in eastern Ukraine, which will be published later. The document also mentions the incident in Donetsk.
The ambassador said he was familiar with the report, but could not disclose its contents until its official publication. However, he said, the document contains evidence that Ukrainian units were not there when the shell hit the ICRC office.
Serheyev said that Ukraine had nothing to hide and was ready to provide access for international representatives to investigating this and other similar incidents.
"Any signal from anyone regarding the involvement of the Ukrainian army or other forces acting on the Ukrainian side must be investigated if there is such violence. Believe me, an open and full investigation of all signals will be ensured in cooperation with OSCE observer groups," he said.
