Finance ministers urged to discuss new financial sanctions against Russia

Kiev/Ukraine in Arabic/ According to Ukraine Today, finance ministers urged to discuss new financial sanctions against Russia. European Union member states have released a rare joint statement condemning the violence in Ukraine and raising concerns about the worsening humanitarian situation in the country.

The statement condemned the attack on Mariupol on Saturday, which left 30 dead and 100 others wounded. It also urged EU foreign ministers, who are due to meet in Brussels on Thursday, to consider further sanctions against Russia for its role in the conflict.

From their statement"In view of the worsening situation we ask (foreign ministers) to assess the situation and to consider any appropriate action, in particular on further restrictive measures, aiming at a swift and comprehensive implementation of the Minsk agreements."

Any further sanctions against Russia will need the blessing of the European Commission and then final approval by European leaders, who are expected to meet on February 12.
