The new law in Ukraine introduces a 12-year secondary education only state language

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has urged Hungary to abandon its intention to hold an October 13 an event titled "Self-determination for Zakarpattia," Minster Pavlo Klimkin wrote on Twitter.

"The Hungarian Foreign Ministry has informed our embassy that on October 13 an event under the slogan "Self-determination for Zakarpattia." Does it mean that Budapest supports separatism?" wrote Klimkin. "We immediately sent a note of protest demanding that this provocation be banned! We are sure that Hungary will continue to respect the territorial integrity of Ukraine," the minister wrote.

As reported earlier, on September 25, President Poroshenko signed the law "On Education," language provisions thereof (Article 7 on the language of command in Ukrainian schools) sparked concern among several EU states: Poland, Romania, Hungary, Greece, and Bulgaria.

The new law in Ukraine introduces a 12-year secondary education, while Ukrainian, the only state language, becomes the language of instruction in education facilities.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin urged Hungary to leave out unnecessary emotions and soberly assess the actual situation with the learning of languages in Zakarpattia region.
