Turkey detained roughly 113 thousand after attempt of coup

Süleyman Soylu, the Turkish Minister of the Interior, stated about the aforesaid

Ever since the failed coup attempt in Turkey in July 2016, over 113 thousand people were detained in the country, on suspicion of ties with US-based Turkish cleric Fethullah Gülen, and about 47 thousand of them are still under arrest.

Süleyman Soylu, the Turkish Minister of the Interior, stated about the aforesaid. 

“Among the arrested are 10,732 police officers, 168 [army] generals, 2,575 judges and prosecutors, 26,177 [ordinary] citizens, and 208 local officials,” Soylu noted, reported Anadolu news agency of Turkey.

The minister added that 65 thousand of the detained persons were released, but about 41 thousand of them were under the supervision of law enforcement agencies.

Ankara blames Fethullah Gülen for orchestrating the said coup attempt.
