Aleksey Yerkhov earlier headed of Department of Situation and Crisis Center of Foreign Ministry of Russia

President of Russia Vladimir Putin appointed Aleksey Yerkhov as a new ambassador of Russian Federation to Turkey. Such decree was published on the official portal on legal information of Russian Federation.

Aleksey Yerkhov will head Russian diplomatic mission in Ankara instead of Karlov who was killed on December 19, 2016.

Aleksey Yerkhov earlier headed of Department of Situation and Crisis Center of Foreign Ministry of Russia. He was also a Consul general of Russian Federation in Istanbul in 2010–2015.

Earlier it was reported that Russian ambassador to Turkey shot in Ankara. It was reported to the President of Russia, he plans to discuss the situation with the Foreign Minister and the heads of the security services.
