The reason for the visit to Russia will be the preparation for the G-20 summit During talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi on May 2, Chancellor Angela Merkel will discuss the situation in Syria and Ukraine. This was stated on Friday at a briefing in Berlin by the official representative of the government of Germany Steffen Seibert.
The reason for the visit to Russia will be the preparation for the G-20 summit in Hamburg, but "problematic issues such as Ukraine and Syria will also be discussed."
As explained by Seibert, Merkel and Putin intend to hold two rounds of talks, in a break between which they plan to answer journalists' questions. He also said that the visit of the Chancellor of Germany, which last visited Russia in May 2015, will be one-day.
